Never thought a straight line would be so hard to make…
If you are new to sewing, then you are probably where I was a couple of years ago…staring at your machine, wondering why the fabric keeps drifting like it has a mind of its own.
Trying to sew in a straight line! It is one of the hardest things that I found when I was beginning to sew and the hardest thing to master. If I am being honest, even now sometimes it’s just not straight!
When I first started, I focused on making Key Fobs and Hand sanitizer holders. Why? They looked easy and didn’t take a lot of fabric or time. It was a perfect way for me to practice.
The best part, it was mostly straight lines! Or so I thought, making a straight line was deceptively difficult that I had mainly failed attempts.
I tried everything: guides, going as slow as humanly possible, buying fancy attachments that promised to keep my fabric in place. Some helped. Some didn’t. What I eventually learned is that the only real solution was practice and LOTS OF IT!
I could’ve practiced on scrap fabric or paper, but that felt boring. And if it’s boring, I’m not doing it. So instead, I made key fobs. Tons and tons of key fobs. Mountains of them. Enough to outfit every key in my house and probably my neighbor’s too.
The funny part? When I brought them to vendor events, I realized I was the only one who cared about perfection. Everyone else thought they were cute, quirky, and handmade and they sold surprisingly well, crooked stitches and all.
Now I have a key fob on every set of keys I own, and I recommend them to every new sewist. They’re quick, satisfying, and the perfect way to practice straight lines without feeling like you’re doing homework.
And that’s exactly why I created the DIY Key Fob Kit, a beginner‑friendly, precut fabric kit that walks you through making your own key fob while practicing the most important skill in sewing: straight lines.
Crooked stitches welcome. ♡

Thanks for being here ♡
This is just the beginning, and I’m thrilled to have you along for the ride.
