Hi there — I’m so glad you’re here.

Welcome to Loose Threads, my cozy corner of the internet where we slow down, get inspired, and make space for creative things. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or someone who simply loves beautiful, handmade moments, I’m grateful you’re part of this journey.

Let’s make something beautiful together.

THIS WEEK’S THREAD

Every month, we’ll explore a theme that sparks creativity and connection. For September, we’re leaning into warmth, comfort, and the joy of handmade living.

And this month let’s talk knitting!

I’ve always been a collector of hobbies. If it involves yarn, fabric, paper, or a new tool, chances are I’ve tried it.

This past month, I decided to try something new, KNITTING.

Why knitting? I wanted to make my own socks!

Why Socks? Why now? No idea. I just do things!

Naturally, you’d think I started with a basic sock pattern, right? NO!

I started with a Sweater! A double stand sweater to be exact.

My sister, Cheeks, who is an amazing crocheter and now knitter and has been making sweaters left and right and convinced me that I could make a one too. And honestly, going from 0 to 100 is exactly my speed.

We chose the Handmade by Florence sweater pattern, and it turned out to be the perfect beginner project. Easy to follow, cozy to work on, and just challenging enough to keep things interesting.

And because I’m me, I didn’t buy new yarn.
Last year, I attempted the Follow Along Halloween Blanket by Sirdar and got about ¾ of the way through before abandoning ship. Which means I had six skeins of leftover yarn — orange, green, grey, and purple. So those became the colors of my new sweater. A very Halloween‑meets‑September vibe.

As a brand‑new knitter, I quickly learned there are so many things you can buy… and it’s overwhelming trying to figure out what’s actually necessary. Here’s what I found genuinely useful:

🧶 My Beginner Knitting Essentials

  • Circular Needles
I grabbed a cheap set from Amazon and ended up loving the metal needles. I bought extra cords in different lengths and they’ve been perfect.

  • Measuring Tape
My pattern had several “knit until you reach 7 cm” sections — and now on my second pattern, I’m realizing this is super common.

  • Small Scissors
A tiny yarn‑cutting set you can toss in your project bag is a must. You’ll use it constantly.

  • Stitch Markers
I prefer the metal ones — I kept breaking the plastic ones. A small kit of these is non‑negotiable.

Knitting has been cozy, chaotic, challenging, and surprisingly calming. And honestly? I’m obsessed. I can’t wait to see where this new hobby takes me.

From collar to yoke to cozy chaos — my first sweater in all its stages.
